Maurizio Sarri is an Italian football manager who was born on January 10, 1959, in Naples, Italy. He started his professional career as a banker but resigned from his job to pursue his dream of becoming a football coach.
Sarri began his coaching career in 1990 as a youth coach for his hometown club, Stia. He went on to coach various Italian clubs, such as Tegoleto, Faellese, Cavriglia, Antella, Valdema, and Sansovino before making a breakthrough in 2012 with Empoli.
He is known for implementing an attacking and possession-oriented style of play which is called "Sarriball." This philosophy involves quick and intricate passing, high pressing, and a focus on maintaining possession to create scoring opportunities.
Sarri has managed several top clubs in Italy, including Napoli, Juventus, and Lazio. He was highly successful at Napoli, where he spent three seasons from 2015 to 2018, winning the Serie A Coach of the Year award twice.
In 2019, he left Napoli to join Chelsea in the Premier League but was sacked after one season. He then returned to Italy to become the manager of Juventus, where he won the Serie A title in his first season.
Sarri is known for his sharp wit and often quirky behavior. He is a non-smoker, a heavy coffee-drinker, and is often seen chain-smoking during games.
